A Change We Desperately Need

By Greg Quinn

October 26th, 2010

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of hearing the word “change”.  “Change” became the mantra of the Obama candidacy.  Everywhere you went, there were signs about “change”.  TV programs talked about the “change” that Obama would make to America.  “The change we need”, “It’s about change”, “Obama for change”, etc. filled the airwaves.  Change this, change that.  Blame Bush for this, and plan to change that to fix Bush’s problem.  The Democrats placed the blame on everything from economy to the housing crisis to the war in Iraq on Bush and the Republicans, even when the previous 4 years were led by a Democrat-controlled Congress.  “It’s all about change” after all.  “Change” became the most important word in the political process, “change” became the word that most clearly directed the Obama Presidential victory, and “change” became the cornerstone of Obama’s post-election Presidency.

Now, 2 years later, we have all had a bellyful of “change”.  Obama’s “change” has resulted in a lot of, well, changes.

For one, “change” has hit the gun industry and us gun owners in a significant measure.  Obama, Biden, and their cronies all support gun control.  Every good Socialist is anti-gun, and Obama is no exception.  Obama’s anti-gun politics caused an uproar in the firearms industry, resulting in record sales of guns and ammunition.  The gun industry considers this good short-term, certainly, but we are all concerned about the long-term implications of Obama’s anti-gun policies.  For us gun owners, we have been scrambling to secure all the guns and ammunition we can acquire in case Obama and his liberal agenda succeed in implementing gun control in America.  Obama’s “change” as it relates to the gun industry, and private gun ownership, is scary.

Obama’s “change” in the significance of life is a “change” from the depths of Hell.  Obama is pro-abortion.  I, as well as most conservatives, am pro-life.  Whether you believe the Bible or not (and I do), there is a clear distinction in both scripture and morality that life begins at conception.  Scientific evidence also proves that life begins at conception.  We can witness the heart beat and blood flow of a child early on in the womb of his mother.  For one to state that the abortion, or murder, of a child while in the mother’s womb is OK, and Federal and State taxpayer dollars should pay for this murder, is appalling.  Yet, that’s the position of our President.  A “change” I can do without.

I think we all have witnessed Obama’s “change” to our economy.  The US economy is at its worst position since the Great Depression.  While it is easy for a president to blame his predecessor, and I’d be the first to admit that things had started to go downhill during the last year of the Bush Administration, Obama is to blame for the state of our current economy.  We have not seen such a downward spiral in the global economy in the past 50 or more years.  Bush’s fault?  If so, then why hasn’t the economy improved in the two years that Obama has been President?  Why has it gone constantly downhill?  I cannot see how anyone in the current administration can put the blame on anyone but themselves.  During the campaign, Obama had a plan to fix the economy.  He fixed it all right; it is worse than ever!  From no jobs to foreclosures to inflation to taxation, the Obama plan for “change” has almost bankrupted the greatest nation in the world.

Obama spoke repeatedly during his campaign about job creation.  He was going to create hundreds of thousands of jobs.  Two years later, where are these jobs?  Why has the unemployment rate continued to fall almost every month during Obama’s two years in office?  “We need a change in the creation of jobs” was a statement Obama made.  So, where is this “change”, Mr. President?

You think you’ve seen enough change?  Just wait.  If the Democrats continue to hold the majority in the House and Senate, then we will see a big “change” in our pocketbook in terms of taxation.  Obama is going to raise our taxes.  Period.  Yes, he says that the taxes will increase on only those who earn more than $250,000 per year, or was it $200,000, or now isn’t it $150,000?  It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the people that create the jobs are for the most part those that make over $200K or so per year.  Ever see a broke person create jobs, pay salaries, build companies?  No.  So, in a time when we already have high unemployment and not nearly enough jobs, the plan of Obama and the Democrats are to raise taxes on those that would create these jobs.  A great “change”, huh?

Don’t let the other tax-talk fool you.  The current Democratic-led House and Senate plans are to raise taxes on practically every working American.  How’s that for “change”?

Obama believes that those that don’t work are entitled to the same benefits as those who work hard and produce.  Sounds like Socialism, doesn’t it?  Because it is.  Obama’s social reform programs will take more of the money from those of us who work to give it to those who will not work so to even out the disparity between the rich and the poor.  One, it is not the job of the President of the US to become Robin Hood and steal from one group to give to another that he deems less fortunate.  Two, doing so leads to a loss of enthusiasm for production in those that the nation is dependent upon to create the wealth that will be stolen and given to another.  It’s a plan that does not work.  Ever see pictures of China before their economic recovery, or the old USSR before their economic and political turn around?

We haven’t seen the last of "cap and trade".  Obama’s energy plan will mandate clean energy, will cost more money in its creation, and will result in fewer jobs, fewer choices, more taxes, and a less bright economic outlook for America.  I am a technology consultant, and I believe in advanced technologies in green energy.  However, it is the position of the Administration to mandate these policies, not to let a free market economy determine through purchases the technologies that will survive.  Government mandates are not a “change” we need.

I have friends in Europe and Canada.  For the most part, if they get really sick and need first-rate medical care, they that can afford to do so leave their countries to come to America where freedom of healthcare choice has resulted in the best medical practices in the world.  Obama and the Democrats want to change our healthcare choices, and put us in the same position as citizens of other nations who suffer from socialized medicine.  Obama’s healthcare plan for America will reduce the quality of healthcare, will increase the cost of healthcare, will limit the providers of healthcare, and will significantly impact the employers who create the jobs, resulting in more unemployment due to fewer jobs.  And, in America, what other purchase decisions have been mandated by the President?  What right does the White House have in forcing me to buy health insurance?  Seems more like a dictatorship than a democracy, doesn’t it?  Welcome to Obama’s “change”.

During the campaign, Obama had a plan to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  What happened to those plans?  More US soldiers have died in the past two years.  We are getting our butts kicked in Afghanistan, Obama’s war, but we came out with a modicum of victory in Iraq.  Where is the “change” that would result in the end of the war in Afghanistan, Mr. President?

Obama complained out our Bush foreign policy.  I dare say that our current foreign policy is worse than anytime in my remembrance.  Obama seems to be more interested in becoming the dictator of the world than the President of the US, and our foreign policy has suffered because of it.  Obama has sided with those against our position in the wars, he has stated that America was a Muslim country to win the admiration of his brethren, he has embraced Iran and criticized Israel, he has supported dictators and failed to support our allies, and his foreign policy has been a disgrace to America.  A “change” that is not only wrong, but un-American and dangerous.

If Obama has his way, and so with the Democratic-led Congress that supports him, America will soon gain several million new citizens with the stroke of a pen.  The infiltration of illegal immigrants from Mexico, and the lack of security of our US borders, should be one of the most significant concerns of American voters.  Where is the talk among the President or the Democrats regarding the lack of border security, or the issue of illegal immigration?  They avoid these discussions.  Why?  Because if the Democrats retain control of the House and Senate then no one can stop Obama’s plans to grant amnesty and citizenship to those in our country illegally.  If it is wrong for you to walk into a convenience store and murder the proprietor, wrong for me to rob a bank, wrong for someone to cheat on their taxes, and wrong for someone to sell government secrets to the enemy, then why is it not wrong for us to grant the privileges of US citizenship to those that broke into our country illegally?  The difference?  Millions of illegal immigrants who are granted amnesty and citizenship will vote for the Democrats who gave them this undeserved gift. It is not about the rights of Americans, the security of our borders, the concern of those underprivileged Mexicans, but pure greed and politics.  This is shameful, and is paramount to the kind of political corruption that represents Obama’s “change”, change that is horrible for America and our way of life.

If all this discussion doesn’t make you sick at your stomach of the “change” we have experienced the past two years, then get ready for more.  Unless all this comes to a stall on November 2nd, and is put to a complete stop in two years with a new Presidential election, then America as we know it is going down the toilet.  We do need a “change”, but not the “change” we have experienced the past two years.

We need to “change” the House.  I don’t know about you, but I am totally embarrassed every time Nancy Pelosi opens her mouth.  If the greatest nation in the world cannot come up with a better Speaker of the House than Ms. Pelosi, what’s wrong with us?  The Democrats need to lose control of the House if for no other reason than to unseat Pelosi!  But there are other reasons.  If the House remains Democrat-controlled, then there is no force in the House to stop Obama’s plans.  All his socialist agenda will continue to fly through the House, and there will be little we can do about it.  My suggestion for “change” in the House of Representatives?  First, look at the voting record of your Representatives.  If their voting record doesn’t represent you (you can find this information on www.congress.org, as well as other places), then get rid of them and put in office someone who does represent your views.  Second, if you don’t want to take the time to look up the voting record of your current Representative, or find out that he or she doesn’t adequately represent you, vote out the incumbents.  In fact, I agree with many that a complete overhaul of Congress, both the House and the Senate, would be a much better solution than living another four years with what we have in there now.

We need to “change” the Senate.  For the same reasons given above (except Pelosi).  If your current Senators do not support your views, replace them.  Or, if you are confused, then vote them out anyway.  It would be tough to do much worse with a new crew than the track record of those currently in office.

I have been accused of being a devoted Republican.  That is not true.  I am a devoted conservative.  I believe in the conservative values that are afforded Americans through our Constitution.  I believe in the Biblical values that forged the foundation of our nation.  I believe in right and wrong and those that know the difference.  I believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  I believe in State’s rights as outlined in the Constitution.  I believe in morality over popularity.  I believe in small government and large individual rights.  I believe that God will once again bless America when Americans turn their eyes back to God.

That said, I vote Republican.  Being conservative is a value, a way of life.  Republican and Democrat are simply political parties.  I vote Republican because it more closely represents my conservative values.  The Republican party today, for the most part, is pro-life, pro-gun, pro-individual rights, pro-state's rights, pro-small government, pro-lower taxes, pro-family values, and anti-Socialist.  The Democratic party today, for the most part, represents the more liberal slants, such as social reform by the government, big government, big taxes, Federal power over state's rights, fewer individual rights, more government power, pro-choice, anti-gun, and pro-Socialist.  The plans by the Republicans, if allowed to be implemented, will result in more jobs, fewer taxes, and more freedoms.  The plans by the Democrats have been implemented over the past 4 years, and this has resulted in the “change” that has been discussed in this article.  A Democrat-led House and Senate over the past 4 years have resulted in the current political and economic mess.  Therefore, we must “change”.  We must replace the Democrats and put in place the Republicans, or Independents, who better represent our values as freedom-loving Americans.

What can you do to help America?  Forward this article to everyone you know.  Ask your friends to join the Gunblast Tea Party, and do so yourself.  And, most importantly, get out and vote on November 2nd.  There is not a more important date than this day.  It is time we replace the “change” we do not need with a change we do need.  Let’s change out Congress.

Thanks, and may God bless America.
