The following article was posted by Jeff on The Campfire discussion board: http://disc.server.com/Indices/47763.html It was in response to a post by a 17-year-old young man named Kevin, who was asking why (from his perspective) the citizens of the Peoples' Republic of California do not seem to be getting enough help from those outside the state, most notably the NRA. I thought Jeff's response to be insightful, incisive, and worthy of reproduction here.

Kevin, are you an NRA member? How about your friends? You people in California have a big fight on your hands. And it is not just about coming legislation, it is about repealing laws already on the books.

I can't imagine why you people out there allow this BS to go on. You're just 17, and you can fight to do that which your parent's generation would not. They sat fat and happy and did nothing to stop it. If everyone who bitched and moaned would stand and fight, you would have no problem with your God-given right to freedom.

Kevin, it has been laid at the feet of your generation to take back your state from the liberal parasites who will consume every freedom you have. Don't wait for someone to show up to help you.

Help ain't coming. Nobody is coming to California to fight for people who will not fight for themselves. The rest of us have already written off your state as a lost cause, until we see a desire and willingness of the people to fight for the freedom you already have, but will not exercise. Let us see a wave of protest from young people like you, Kevin.

The older people in your state have laid down and given in to everything your politicians want. They whine and cry, and then give in and hand over their guns, along with their freedom. Don't you do it, Kevin. Don't lay down for these maggots that your parent's generation keeps electing. One more year and you can vote, but that ain't enough. It will be a hard fight, but that will make victory that much sweeter.

God bless you, Kevin. Ya'll stir things up in California and we will help. As for whining, we don't want to hear it. Join the NRA, and ask them to back you up, not to do the fighting for you. This is a California problem. I can't vote in California. I will, however, support your fight for your freedom. Let's see some pro-gun activity out there. Playing defense ain't working. Compromising with anti-gunners always means giving in. The opposition never gives up anything, except your freedom. Don't take it, Kevin. No more. You are the downtrodden minority in this one. You live amongst Clinton-loving liberals. California wanted Al Gore to be your President. They keep sending senators like Feinstein and Boxer, along with Representatives like Loretta Sanches (who stole the district from that great American, "B1 Bob" Dornan), to D.C. to make our laws.

You've got an uphill fight on your hands if you want it. If not, do as Californians before you, and look to the east for help to come running. We ain't coming to a fight that ain't there. To use a rather crude analogy, but a meaningful one, it's like a woman that keeps giving it up and then crying "rape" afterwards.
