A Sad Anniversary
by Fr. Michael Reilly on the 29th anniversary of
"Roe v. Wade"
Tuesday, Jan. 22, nearly 100,000 good and faithful people
will brave the elements to remind America that it condones the murder
of more than 1 million babies each year. Sadly, the media's "new
math" will reduce the numbers significantly.
Political correctness has expanded to call this a "choice."
Even good people might say, "I would never have an abortion, but
if my neighbor wants to ... " I wonder if they would turn a deaf
ear to a neighbor who was brutally beating his children to the point of
injury.
We speak of choice when the law insulates sixteen-year
old girls from the counsel of their parents. A school nurse cannot even
dispense an aspirin without parental consent, and yet a young girl can
get an abortion without her parents ever finding out. Do we really want
a young girl traumatized by pregnancy and fear to make life and death
decisions without the guidance of her family?
Meanwhile, in New York State, the Attorney General is
mounting efforts to close all pro-life pregnancy centers that give young
women information about their babies, alternatives to abortion, and access
to services that make having the baby a viable alternative.
What is choice without information?
More importantly, what is the Attorney General so eager
to keep the girls from learning about? We speak of choice when the cold
reality is that we are dealing with the murder of innocent children.
Can God really bless America on January 22?
